The Subdivision of the Service for Accounting, Reporting and Audit Supervision of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia organized the workshop

Within the STAREP (Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in the Countries of the Eastern Partnership) program, the workshop organized by the World Bank Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR) and the Subdivision of the Service for Accounting, Reporting and Audit Supervision of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia was held on 21-22 June, 2017, at the Biltmore hotel, Tbilisi. The theme of the workshop was: `National initiatives for strengthening accounting education’.

Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in the Countries of the Eastern Partnership (STAREP) is a regional program of the World Bank’s Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR). The program aims to create a transparent policy environment and effective institutional framework for corporate reporting within the countries that make up the European Union’s Eastern Partnership: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Within the  STAREP program, Accounting and Auditing Education Community of Practice (EduCoP) are working together to modernize the education and development of accountants and auditors.

The workshop aimed to disseminate the lessons learned at the regional level with the members of the Georgian community of practice to strengthen the collaboration among the local universities and professional accountancy organizations, as well as to identify practical next steps in further modernization of the accounting and auditing education at both, university and professional levels. Workshop participants discussed progress that has been, as well as prospects for development of standards. They shared the experience,  immensely important to achieve the objectives.
The representatives from CFRR, Subdivision of the Service for Accounting, Reporting and Audit Supervision of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, universities and the professional organizations of auditors and accountants attended the workshop.

During the workshop, the presentations were held by the representatives from CFRR, Subdivision of the Service for Accounting, Reporting and Audit Supervision of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, the Ministry of Education of Georgia and Universities.

Presentations touched upon important topics such as International education standards, professional certification and continuous education, the latest initiatives of the accounting, reporting and audit reform determined by law, the standards and rule projects represented by the Service and so on.
